Our Story MT. Carmel Community Baptist Church

Mount Carmel Community Baptist Church was officially organized April 11, 1999 at the Steubenville, Ohio Y.W.C.A.; which served as the temporary location until the completion of the sanctuary currently located at 708 North Fifth Street, Steubenville, Ohio.

After an 18-month Building Fund Campaign that began in June 1999, the groundbreaking for the new church was held on Sunday, December 17, 2000 and construction began on December 18, 2000. The church was completed in May 2001.

Mt. Carmel was built solely with the tithes and offerings from the congregation and special friends of Mt. Carmel.

Mount Carmel now functions with the following ministries:

  • Deacons Ministry
  • Trustees Ministry
  • M.O.V.E.R.S. (Men Of Valor Evangelizing Restoring and Serving) Men’s Ministry
  • EmpowHer Women’s Ministry
  • S.W.A.P. (Sisters With A Purpose) Young Women’s Ministry
  • The S.E.T. (Young Adults Ministry)
  • Fishes and Loaves Soup Lunch Ministry
  • S.L.A.M. (Serving Love And Mercy) Nursing Home Ministry
  • C.R.E.W. (Youth Ministry)
  • Greeters Ministry
  • Doorkeepers Ushers Ministry
  • Sunday School Ministry
  • Take off and many more.

The Mount Carmel family and our special friends have worked, lived and loved with three different pastors. Founding Pastor Rev. Michael E. Rutledge served the growing congregation for seven years.

He constantly encouraged members with the words:

“If you just do what God says to do, everything will be alright.” Rev. Dr. Charles E. Thomas, Jr. served for five years continually growing the congregation and teaching and preaching the Word of God.

We, the Mount Carmel family, are still excited about our current Pastor; Rev. Benjamin L. Calvert II, who was installed as Pastor in August 2014. Through sound Biblical preaching and teaching he continues to dare us to Pray Big and grow in the grace of God.

We are grateful to continue to serve as God is enlarging our territory, increasing our faith, and solidifying our impact and influence in the community at large. Having recently added a Mid-week Power Prayer Call and a second worship service on Sundays we are following God with great expectation that He will continue to use us to transform the world.

We humbly thank God for our 20 plus years of service and pray for continued blessing upon us and our community.
